Jeannie Seaver wins Ladies Open

The 4th Saturday of June brought the Ladies to the 1st Ladies Only Open 9 Ball event at Ultimate Billiards in Fort Pierce, FL. The event was a $250 added, double elimination, $50 Entry event. Despite the small field of 12 ladies there were some tough battles. Sandy Hamor from the Melbourne Fl. area came out of semi-retirement to show she hasn't lost her touch finishing third. Amy Poulter who is always a threat at any Ladies or Mens event proved once again that she came to play. After suffering a second round defeat to fourth place finisher Cassidy Mulligan, Amy went on to win 5 consecutive matches on the left side to face off in the finals with Jeannie Seaver. In this true double elimination format Amy won the first round 7-5. Amy continued her charge to the finsh line only to run out of gas as Jeannie won the second set 5-3. We would like to thank local room owners for showing their support, Amy of Amy's Billiards and Margie, Owner of Hollywood Billiards. The total prize fund was $730 including the $250 added. Payouts to the top 4 finishers were:

  • 1st Place Jeannie Seaver $325
  • 2nd Place Amy Poulter $200
  • 3rd place Sandy Hamor $135
  • 4th place Cassidy Mulligan $ 70

KF Cues Open 9 Ball, February 7th, 2009

Ultimate Billiards in Ft Pierce hosted their first ever KF event and another record breaking field turned out. The $1,700 added event attracted 112 entrants over the 2 days.

The $1000 Added open kicked off with 47 players and with Richard Broumpton doing all the damage. Broumpton went through to the finals undefeated with wins over Johnny Reaves 7-5, Javier Chirino 7-2, Cal Mcgann 7-3, Doug Johnson 7-3, Curtis Kelley 7-3 which would put him up against Eddie Cabrea for the hot seat match. Cabrea was having a break out event beating several of the top players in the field which included wins over Han Berber 7-5, Gail Grecar 7-1 and then a win over Bill Dunsmore to put him up against Broumpton for the hotseat match.

This match was a tight affair with Broumpton edging a 7-4 win to take the hot seat. He would now wait the winner of the one loss side where Josh Lewis was a man on a mission. Lewis had lost his first round match to Prescott Buckwold 7-4 and then went on to record 9 very impressive wins beating the likes of Han Berber 7-6, Mike Destefano 7-3, Doug Johnson 7-3, Tony Crosby 7-4, Bill Dunsmore 7-5, Curtis Kelley 7-6 and then a win over over Eddie Cabrea to put himself in the final and leave Eddie Cabrea with a fine 3rd place finish.

he Finals was all Broumpton. Broumpton had recently switched to the new line of Concept Cues which tour director Tony Crosby and Corey Deuel have been developing. It proved to be the right Concept for Broumpton as he dominated a one sided final besting Lewis 9-2 in the single race final and take his first KF Cue Tour win with the $800 winners purse.

KF Cues Amateur 9 Ball, February 8th, 2009

Ultimate Billiards Ft Pierce, Fl hosted the $700 Added Amateur event. The open event drew a record field of 47 players and as always the Amateur event went one better by drawing a massive 75 players. The Amateur is proving to be a big success and is now drawing a large field of Ladies and junior players taking advantage of the big entry fee discounts.

Ultimate Billiards would also prove itself to be one of the leading rooms in the Florida State to host an event of this size with its 20 9 ft pool tables this would make things run very smooth.

Mark Wathen would be the man to take the hot seat on the day beating George Saunders 6-4 and prove why as of late he is a big threat in the Amateur division making his way through to his 2nd final of the season. Newcomer Tony Pete was causing problems on the one loss side having lost to Wathen on the winners 6-4. Pete had some battle on his way to the finals with a hard fought 5-4 win over Adam Wheeler followed by a 5-3 win over Ed Kiess, 5-2 win over Josh Lewis where he would now Face Raymond Linares who is another player who’s game is improving fast. This match would go right down to the wire with Linares playing strong pool only to fall short in the last game, at 4-4 Linares would make a very tough 7 only to leave himself in a worse position on the 8 and hand the match to Pete leaving Linares in 4th spot. The semi final would see pete dominate the with some fine safety play and Leave George Saunders kicking at balls the whole match and send him out in 3rd place.

The Final, Wathen had been sat around for nearly 2 hours and it showed as Pete was gathering momentum on the one loss side Wathen was losing it. Pete would dominate the final taking advantage of a sluggish Wathen to win the match and his first KF event 8-3. The only consolation for Wathen is he would jump to no1 displacing Ted Lepak for the tour points leader.
